SUPERVISION

Individual and Group Supervision for Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Interns working for hours towards Licensure and Registered Expressive Art Therapy (REAT) Interns working for hours towards Registration with the International Expressive Art Therapy Association (IEATA) is available with the East Bay Women's Therapy Alliance.

Supervision for both MFT and REAT include traditional psychological therapist/client issues such as transference, counter-transference, defense mechanisms and self care. Role playing, case presentations, discussion, review of treatment plans and case notes, as well as transpersonal methods to sense into and embody the client, give the intern a deeper understanding of the client's, and their own, patterns, blocks, and issues.

Supervision is intern centered, respectful and takes into consideration different learning styles. 'What do you need?' 'What's the best way you learn?' 'Would the client feel seen if they read your notes?' are some of the questions an intern would be asked.

Supervision can include guidelines for setting up a private practice; an REAT intern may also have needs concerning formats and venues for the practice of arts disciplines, information about art supplies and/or techniques.

A Coaching client may need support to be or become a supervisor themselves; a new or potential supervisor can learn to clarify and model their leadership skills. In addition to psychological concerns, conflict resolution, staff development, parallel process, mission statements, values, beliefs, policies and work performance are all issues a good supervisor is knowledgeable about and able to implement in the work place.
