ANNE SAGEWOOD, MFT
Anne Sagewood, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, has been in private practice for over 15 years. She received her Master's Degree in Transpersonal Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, California. Her undergraduate work was also done in California at Long Beach State University where she received a B.A. in Social Work.
Anne works with individuals and couples with difficulties such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and grief and loss issues. For the past three years, she has facilitated an ongoing grief/support group. Along with her private practice Anne works at a residential treatment program for addictive women and their children.
In working with clients, Anne applies a cognitive approach which draws upon two theoretical models, the Relational Model and Buddhist Psychology. Sessions are characterized by active listening and discussion which are focused on the present. Experiences are explored bringing to light patterns of thinking and feeling. This process informs the client of the nature of their reality and the part s/he plays in creating it. This empowers them toward a more choiceful and less reactive life.
Anne maintains a meditation practice and is a member of the Berkeley Shambhala Center where she serves as a Shambhala Guide and Assistant Director and is also Resident Director of Shambhala Training. Her ongoing Tibetan Buddhist studies are based on the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and his predecessor Sakyang Mipham Rinpoche.
Anne's private practice office is located in Oakland on Telegraph Ave, one block south of Alcatraz. You can reach her at 510-469-9066.
